AMsummary ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application AMsummary (the "App") and our website amsummary.com, where you can also sign in and buy a subscription.

1. Information We Collect

We collect only the minimum information necessary to provide our service:

• Audio recordings: When you record, audio is captured by your device microphone, and the audio file is saved on your phone so you can play it back. On compatible phones, transcription runs on your device and the audio does not leave it. Otherwise — on phones that cannot run the on-device model, while that model is still downloading (usually your first recording), for long recordings, if you turn off on-device transcription, or when the on-device result is not usable — the audio is sent over an encrypted connection to our AI transcription provider only to get the text back; our servers do not store it. The summary is always generated in the cloud, from the text.
• Transcripts, summaries, and imported content: The text of your transcript, the documents and links you import (PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, text, YouTube, web pages), and the AI outputs are sent to our backend and a third-party AI provider to generate summaries, quizzes, flashcards, study guides, and chat answers. It is used only to produce your results; our servers do not keep a copy linked to your account (see section 5).
• Account information: If you create an account, we receive your email address through the sign-in method you choose: Sign in with Apple (which may be Apple's private relay address), Sign in with Google (your email and the basic profile details Google shares, such as your name), or email and password (the password is stored only in hashed form; we never see it). We use it to identify your account and your plan. If you use the App without an account, we create an anonymous identifier, with no name or email, to count your free summaries; when you sign up, that count moves to your account.
• Subscription information: Your plan (Free, Individual or Institutional) and its status, where you bought it (App Store, Google Play or our website), and the purchase identifiers we receive from the store or payment provider. If you redeem an institutional code, we record which code you used. We never receive your full card number.
• Usage data: We count the summaries, Studio generations and chat messages you use (and the length of each recording) to apply your plan's limits. The free plan is a one-time allowance for life, not a monthly quota: 10 summaries — 5 without an account and 5 more when you sign up — plus 5 Studio generations and 15 chats with Lía. On paid plans, usage is counted over rolling 30-day periods.
• Diagnostics: Crash and error reports to keep the App stable. These are not linked to your identity.
• Calendar (optional): If you enable it, the App reads event titles on your device to auto-name recordings and can attach a summary to an event. Your calendar is not uploaded; if a recording takes an event's title as its name, that name is treated like the rest of the recording.

2. How We Use Your Information

• To transcribe your recordings (on-device by default; cloud fallback only when needed)
• To generate AI summaries, key points, quizzes, flashcards, study guides, and chat answers from your content
• To manage your account, subscription, and plan limits
• To diagnose technical issues and fix bugs

We do not use your recordings or content to train AI models, we do not sell your data, and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites for advertising.

3. What Stays on Your Phone and What Leaves It

AMsummary keeps on your phone as much as it can, but not everything: to write your summary, the text has to be processed in the cloud. Exactly:

• Stays on your phone: your audio recordings and your library of transcripts, summaries and study materials (transcripts and summaries are saved encrypted with AES-256); reading aloud also happens on the phone. We do not keep a copy of your library on our servers.
• Leaves your phone, always encrypted in transit (TLS): the text each AI feature needs — your transcript, pasted text or imported content, your messages to Lía and, to file each recording in a folder, its summary and your folder names. It goes to our backend and our AI provider, which generate the result and send it back to your phone. It is not used to train AI models.
• Audio, only when your phone cannot transcribe it (the cases in section 1): it is sent for cloud transcription only to get the text back, our servers do not store it, and the original file stays on your phone.
• Documents and links: PDF, Word, PowerPoint and Excel files are sent to our backend to extract their text and are not stored (plain-text files are read on your phone). For YouTube videos, your phone requests the captions directly from YouTube and, if it can't, our backend does; for web pages, the link goes to our backend, which retrieves the content — for some pages, through a web page-reading service.
• What our servers keep: your account, your plan and your usage counts (section 1), temporary technical logs (section 8) and the shared cache of the text and summaries of YouTube videos, web pages and pasted text described in section 5. Summaries of your recordings, audio files and documents are never cached.

4. Third-Party Services

We share data with the following categories of third-party processors, only as needed to operate AMsummary, under their terms of service and, where they exist, data-processing agreements that limit them to providing their service to us:

• AI processing provider: The text of your transcript and content (and, when transcription happens in the cloud, your audio) is processed to generate transcriptions, summaries, quizzes, flashcards, study guides, and chat answers. Your content is not used to train its models.
• Cloud infrastructure and database provider: Hosts your account and processes the requests described above.
• Subscription management provider: Processes in-app subscriptions and purchases.
• Web payments provider (reseller and merchant of record): When you buy on our website, checkout is run by our online reseller, which is the merchant of record for the sale. It collects your payment and billing details directly, charges you, handles sales tax, invoices, cancellations and refunds, and appears on your card statement. We only receive confirmation of the purchase, your plan and the purchase identifiers — never your full card number. It processes your payment data as an independent controller under its own privacy policy, shown at checkout; it is also named on your receipt and in our Refund Policy.
• Diagnostics provider: Crash and error reporting, with no personal identity attached.
• Apple: Sign in with Apple, app distribution, and in-app purchases, subject to Apple's Privacy Policy.
• Google: Sign in with Google, app distribution on Google Play, and Google Play purchases, subject to Google's Privacy Policy.

Institutional customers can request the specific names of our sub-processors at soporte@amsummary.com.

5. Data Storage & Security

Your recordings, transcripts and summaries are stored on your device: transcripts and summaries encrypted with AES-256, and audio in the App's private storage. Our servers process your text to generate your results but do not keep a copy linked to your account; on our servers we keep only your account information, your plan and your usage counts (section 1). The one exception: for shared sources — YouTube videos, web pages and pasted text — we keep the text and its summary in a shared cache, indexed by a fingerprint of the content and not linked to your account, so the same source is not processed twice. That cache has no set expiry and is not erased when you delete your account: if you paste private text, that text and its summary are kept there. Summaries of your recordings, audio files and documents are never cached. If you delete the App, the content stored on your phone is deleted with it. We use industry-standard encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest, and we implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data against unauthorized access.

6. Children's Privacy

AMsummary is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us immediately.

7. Your Rights & Account Deletion

You can delete your account and all associated data at any time directly from within the App (Settings → Delete account). This permanently removes your account and the data we hold on our backend. Deleting your account does not cancel an active subscription: cancel an Apple subscription in Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions, a Google Play subscription in Google Play → Payments & subscriptions, and a subscription bought on our website from the link in your purchase receipt email (see our Refund Policy).

Depending on your location (for example, under GDPR or CCPA), you may also have the right to access, correct, restrict, or object to the processing of your data, request a copy, or request deletion. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@amsummary.com.

8. Data Retention

You control your content: it lives on your device, and you can delete individual recordings or your entire account at any time from within the App. When you delete your account, your account, plan and usage data are removed from our servers. Audio sent for cloud transcription is not stored on our servers. The cached text and summaries of shared sources are not linked to any account, so deleting your account does not remove them, and they have no set expiry. Like any online service, our infrastructure keeps technical logs (such as the time of each request and the IP address) for a limited period, for security and troubleshooting.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via an in-app notification. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent version.
